Loss of citizenship due to the shift of Polish borderline

After the outbreak of the World War II, on September 17th, 1939 the armies of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics invaded the eastern part of the Polish territory. This invasion ultimately led to the shift of the Polish eastern borderline after the war. This borderline shift meant that Polish citizens residing on the Polish territories on or after September 17th, 1939 lost their Polish citizenship when they were granted Soviet citizenship and took up a permanent residence in the territories adjoined to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
