Loss of Polish citizenship by accepting a public office in a foreign country

According to the Polish Citizenship Act of 1920 (art 11, point 2), if a Polish citizen took up a public office in a foreign country then he/she automatically lost Polish citizenship. A public office was defined as a post in the government and self-government units in a foreign country. This meant both positions of high authority (e.g. the president, governor, mayor, chief county official, senator, etc.) and common positions in self-government and state administration (e.g. police officer, civil servant, etc.).
