Schengen zone

Schengen zone constitutes an area where border controls have been abolished at internal borders of the Member States included in this zone. There are uniform principles on the protection of the borders of the Member States (control of entry and exit of foreigners, for example by means of harmonization of visa forms issued to foreigners) applied at the external borders of the Schengen zone.
Schengen zone includes the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, as well as Norway and Iceland (the last two countries are Schengen zone countries which are not EU Members States). Switzerland has recently joined the Schengen zone.
The countries that do not belong to Schengen zone are the United Kingdom and Ireland as well as Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania.
