Polish citizenship guide

Issuing the Polish citizenship certification

When the Polish citizenship certification application is submitted, the relevant Provincial Office starts the procedure leading to the decision of Polish citizenship certification. First, the application along with the attached documents is analysed. If the information included in the application and the attachments is sufficient to assess the case, then the department issues the decision. If, however, the department states that the application is incomplete and the decision cannot be issued, then it asks the applicant for additional information or documents. It often happens that it is the Provincial Office who contacts the Polish Archives about the missing documents. When the case has been clarified and Polish citizenship of the applicant confirmed, then the Provincial Office issues the decision which certifies the applicant’s Polish citizenship. It might happen that the Provincial Office issues a negative decision in which it refuses to confirm the applicant’s Polish citizenship.
