Loss of citizenship by acquiring citizenship of another country

In accordance with Article 13 of the Polish Citizenship Act of 1962, a Polish citizen lost Polish citizenship by acquiring a foreign citizenship only when he/she obtained the consent from the Polish authorities. The consent was issued by the Council of State (Rada Państwa). Therefore, two conditions had to be fulfilled alongside in order to lose Polish citizenship: acquiring a foreign citizenship, and obtaining the consent from the Polish authorities (the Council of State). Consequently, the act of acquiring foreign citizenship itself did not result in the loss of Polish citizenship.
