Polish citizenship confirmation

Important information
See what Polish citizenship confirmation looks like

Polish emigrants and their descendants who want to obtain a Polish passport need to have their Polish citizenship confirmed. The confirmation of Polish citizenship occurs after a relevant Polish department has issued a special decision. Persons who left Poland in the distant past or who were born abroad (as children or grand-children of Polish emigrants) have to check their Polish citizenship status (whether or not they still hold Polish citizenship). The service yourpoland.pl has prepared a special survey that allows to assess whether or not a person of Polish origin has lost his/her Polish citizenship. Those who still have Polish citizenship have the right to obtain the confirmation of their Polish citizenship. In order to do it they will need to apply to a relevant Polish department for issuing such a confirmation.

The following activities are required in order to have Polish citizenship confirmed:
- preparing the application to have Polish citizenship certified
- gathering all the necessary documents
- legalizing foreign official documents
- translating foreign documents into Polish
- submitting the application to have Polish citizenship certified at the relevant department.

Step-by-step explanation of what to do along with the detailed description of the procedure of having Polish citizenship certified is to be found in further sections. See: The application to have Polish citizenship certified, The application to have Polish citizenship certified – the contents, The application to have Polish citizenship certified – submitting the application, The required documents, etc.
