Marriage to a Polish citizen

Polish law provides for a simplified way of acquiring Polish citizenship by a foreigner (male or female) residing in the Polish territory on the basis of the following:
• a settlement permit (it applies to non-EU nationals) or
• a residence permit for a long-term EC resident (it applies to non-EU nationals) or
• the right of a permanent residence (it applies to EU nationals)

if he or she remains married for at least 3 years to the person holding Polish citizenship.

In other words, the spouse of a Polish citizen may use a simplified procedure of acquiring Polish citizenship if she/he satisfies two conditions, namely:
• she/he remains married for at least 3 years to a Polish citizen and
• she/he lives in Poland on the basis of a settlement permit or a residence permit for a long-term EC resident or has the right of a permanent residence (in case of EU citizens).
