Schengen Visa

Schengen visa gives the right to travel and reside in the member states of the Schengen zone (see section: Schengen zone).

Schengen visas are:

  • Schengen visa marked "C" issued by the state of the Schengen zone for transit through the territory of the Schengen countries (transit) or for an intended stay in Schengen countries that does not exceed three months in any six-month period from the date of first entry into the Schengen states;
  • airport transit visa marked "A" (airport visa), which entitles to transit through the international transit zone of one or more airports of the Schengen countries. Airport visas are required from the citizens of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka.

Schengen visa may be issued for the following purposes:

  • tourism;
  • visit;
  • carrying out work;
  • running business activity;
  • studying;
  • implementing the residence permit for a fixed period;
  • implementing the settlement permit;
  • implementing a residence permit for a long-term EC resident, etc.

The period of residence under the Schengen visa (type "C") may not exceed 90 days during the 180 day period - starting from the date of first entry into the Schengen zone.

Schengen Visa "C" may be:

  • a uniform visa, which entitles you to stay in all Schengen states,
  • a visa with limited territorial validity, which is valid on the territory of one or more (but not all) countries of the Schengen zone. Such a visa is issued in special cases, e.g. where this is justified by the interest of a given country.

The airport transit visa - "A" is issued if the foreigner intends to go to a third country, i.e. non-EU country, to another third country, and the airline connection provides an intermediate landing at the airport in the country of the Schengen zone (e.g. Poland), and the foreigner does not intend to leave the international transit zone of the airport. The airport transit visa can be issued only to the citizens of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan and Sri Lanka. The airport transit visa "A" only entitles to enter and stay in the international transit area of the airport (it does not authorize to enter the Schengen zone or leave the airport transit zone).
